IEC 61850 · IED and station simulator

HolonStationTwin 61850

In development

Turn SCL files into running IEDs. Simulate one device or a whole station on a single PC, publish GOOSE and drive values, so you can test gateways, SCADA and protection logic without the hardware.

Planned features

What this tool is being built to do. Features may change before the first release.

  • From SCL to running IED

Load an ICD, CID or SCD and start a server for each IED with its data model, data sets and control blocks.

  • A station on one PC

Run many IEDs side by side, each on its own IP address, to recreate a full station on a laptop or lab server.

  • GOOSE publishing

Publish GOOSE messages as configured in the SCD, change states on demand and set the simulation bit and quality.

  • Values and scenarios

Change values by hand or play scenarios with ramps, steps and sequences of events.

  • Reports and controls

Answer clients like a real IED: send reports, accept or refuse commands and apply select-before-operate.

  • Sampled Values

Publishing of Sampled Values streams for process bus testing is planned for a later release.

Where it helps

  • Factory acceptance tests

Run the FAT of gateways and SCADA before the IEDs arrive, or when only some of them are available.

  • Gateway and SCADA testing

Exercise every signal and command from the station level without touching real equipment.

  • Labs, training and digital twins

Give students and engineers a realistic station to work on, and a base for digital twin projects.
